Seeing Stars ~

Shooting through the sky, they bring good luck. In a tarot card reading they mean hope, spirituality, renewal, inspiration and serenity.  Apparently on Tinder, a blue one is a “super like”.  Stars mean so many things.  There have never been more of them to look at, so why not wear them!

STOP Wearing Pajamas in Public — Now

This is my number one pet peeve!!  If you are a grown person who has not recently been diagnosed with a mental disorder, and you have gone out in public in your pajamas, you need to know you look like an idiot.  Unfortunately, wearing pj’s in public is not a new thing, nor is the misguided notion that pajamas can be somehow fashionable.  It is just wrong.  I get it. You were in a hurry; your pajamas are comfy; you are just dashing to the grocery store for coffee filters; you plan to spend the day in your bathrobe anyway.  TOO BAD. I am also at that grocery store, and just before leaving the house I spent an entire half-minute pulling on this pair of blue jeans and a hoodie, so that you would not have to see me in the striped flannel bottoms and the holey v-neck I wore to bed last night.  OK, rant over!!

Fashion Tips to Make You Look Taller

Happy Monday ya’ll.  The right clothing and accessories can literally make you appear taller and leaner. But the wrong style choices will have the exact opposite effect.  Check out these tips to make you appear taller.

~ You can look taller by wearing matching dark color suits. When, you wear dark matching outfits, it eliminates minor imperfections such as shadows and wrinkles because they blend in with the fabrics. You can choose to wear navy blue, dark green, brown, charcoal etc.

~ Avoid wearing clothes that does not fit you. Rather wear clothes that fit you as your torso would seem long than short.

~ High heels can also make you look somewhat taller. However shoes with massive heels actually can make you look shorter so it is better to choose a medium heel height.

~ Separate the upper part of your body and the base in differentiating colors. This will make your lower half seem longer – for instance, wearing high-waisted shorts. Wearing long shirts will make you seem shorter.

~ Your posture also goes a long way. When you stand straight or keep your spine straight, and having your head up high, you will look taller than you actually look.

~ V-neck areas and dresses with hemlines that can reach the top of the knee or higher are other fashion tips that may also help you look taller.

~ Fitted Jeans with an unmistakable flare at the base make the deception of a longer leg, particularly when the hem hits the highest point of your shoes.  The trick here is to keep the fit of the jean super-thin through the leg, and to ensure the waistband hits your natural waist — not any lower. For ideal stature, make sure to match your flares with a waist-length top, or a shirt you can tuck in.

~ Go super short or super long (to avoid calf length and knee-lengths) – if you decide to go for shorts, the go for super short. For petite women, as regards skirts and dresses, you should either go for a super long or super short. Wearing a mini skirt will help you show more of your skin which will in turn create an illusion of a long leg.

~ Lastly, one of the popular fashion tips for petite women is wearing vertical stripes. Wearing things that have stripes going straight here and there offer you some assistance with looking taller, instead of level stripes that will make you look big. Pinstripes likewise can definitely enhance your tallness.

How to Style Black Jeans

Black jeans are some of the most versatile wardrobe items you can own and can easily be worn hundreds of ways.  My first reaction when pulling out black jeans is to pair it with a neutral color. It is such a classic pairing and the colors just always…work. I love playing with the black and brown combo when putting outfits together, especially in the fall and winter months.  Like I have done with my previous posts, I am going to give you several ideas, and you can mix and match them with your taste.

Winter White ~

Yeah, it is freezing cold in most states right now, but spring will be peeking around the corner before you know it!!  So, there is nothing better than embracing winter whites for now. The air is still crisp and the days are getting longer, but your wardrobe is not ready to break out the lighter fabrics just yet. Of course, you do not have to forgo your spring trends just because the cold front is still here. In fact, what better time to style yourself a winter-white outfit when you need it most?  Though you probably should not wear your summer whites when it is cold (lace dresses and eyelet blouses), there are still plenty of offerings in cold-weather fabrics and textures. Check out these examples below!

Oversized Cardigan ~ Don’t Look Frumpy

Oversized cardigans are all the rage these days…….I can see why. They are cozy, and make for an easy layer.  However, here is the thing…..they can be unflattering. Here are some general guidelines to stick with when wearing an oversized cardigan.

~ Consider the weight of the cardigan when you buy it. Look for a nice, heavy material but also one that is not overly “puffy” if you know what I mean.  No one wants to look “puffy”.

~ Layer a top underneath that fits close to the body.  Add a fitted t-shirt or thin blouse that does not add a thick weight, making you look bulky underneath.

~ Consider wearing a higher waist pant and tucking your top in to visually create your waist line. Having a waist below all that material is a good thing.

~ I prefer oversized cardigans that hit mid-thigh or below. I find ones that hit closer to the hip area just draw attention to and add bulk to, well, the hip area. Nobody wants to draw attention there!

Dos and Dont’s for Wearing Camo

Camo might seem masculine and tough, but the truth is, it looks better on women than it does on most men. It is all just a matter of how you style it. Assuming you do not want to look like you are wearing army fatigues or auditioning for the next season of Duck Dynasty, here are some dos and don’ts you might want to keep in mind.

DO accessorize ~ Camo is a very masculine print — which is why it looks so cool on women — but accessorizing will help keep you from looking too boyish. Simple metallic jewelry in gold and silver is cool and feminine, but not overly girly. Try a smaller, cross-body bag as opposed to a larger carryall and opt for high heels or a feminine pair of ballet flats as opposed to sneakers or flat, chunky boots.

DON’T wear it head-to-toe ~ Camo is great on everything from jeans to dresses to bags, but limit yourself to one camo piece at a time if you do not want to look like you are going hunting in the woods.

DO add color ~ Camo looks great paired with black, white, and other neutrals, but it also works with bold neons and even soft pastels. Adding a little color helps soften the look and makes it feel a little more fun.

DO show some skin ~ You want to show at least a little skin when you are wearing camo, so it does not look like you are dressing like a Marine.

DON’T mix it with animal print ~ Camo and animal prints often look very similar, so when you mix them together the whole outfit can start to feel a little busy.  If you really want to try camo print mixing, make sure to break it up with some solid pieces as well. Plaid and other linear prints work best, but in small doses.

DO wear it in unexpected places ~ Camo jeans and shirts are great and all, but the freshest way to wear camo is on strictly feminine pieces like dresses, pumps, mini skirts, and even lingerie. An unexpected flash of camo is great for adding just a hint of tough-girl edge to a look.

DON’T be shapeless ~ Camo clothing can be a little overwhelming when it starts to lose its shape. Even if you are wearing something on the looser, more relaxed side, you want to make sure you balance that out with something more fitted, so the look does not get too masculine.

DO wear it at night ~ Camo is not just for daytime. It looks really good with anything sparkly or metallic, which makes it perfect for going out. Transition a basic jeans and T-shirt look to evening with a camo clutch and some metallic accessories, or add a gold belt to a camo pencil skirt and a low-cut top for a date look that’s sexy and cool.
