Quick Tips for the Busy Woman

Some mornings just do not go quite as planned. Maybe you accidentally set your alarm for p.m. instead of a.m. Or, you are feeling a bit rough after a crazy school night out. Or all of the above, and you are just feeling LAZY. It is a moot point, though, because you still have to drag yourself to the office and somehow look professional. Check out my quick tips and ideas on how to pull yourself together fast and still be stylish.
Dresses are the easiest thing in your closet, so when you are running late for work, this is the time to pull one out. Pair a sleeveless dress with a cardigan and a statement necklace, and you will instantly look like you spent a lot more time thinking about your outfit. Pull everything together with black opaque tights and matching booties.
Keep your jewelry organized.  Raise your hand if this scene sounds familiar: you have your outfit all picked out and ready to go, you head to your jewelry box to retrieve your favorite necklace, and you are bummed to discover it is entangled in a massive knot with about six other necklaces. Make sure this scene never replays by keeping your jewelry organized —chains should never be stored with other chains. Keep them separate from one another, and be sure to keep your most prized pieces in a uniform place so you always know where to find the ones you wear the most often.
Keep your outerwear separate.  One of the greatest things you can do for your life and your wardrobe is to keep your outerwear—light jackets, hats, scarves, even rain boots—separate from the rest of your closet. That way, you do not have to fool with them when you are getting dressed, and you can allow them to be an afterthought as you are heading out the door.
The final “trick” is have a go to outfit always ready.  This is probably your staple outfit. You know, those items in your closet that you can throw together in five seconds that LOOK like you actually put in some effort?  My favorite is a pair of black pants or dark denim jeans, a graphic tshirt and a fitted jacket or blazer.  You can dress this up by adding heels, or dress it down with flats.

Ways to Wear Black Leggings

I am not a huge proponent of wearing leggings; however, with the new LulaRoe craze, everyone seems to be wearing them.  Black leggings can be a stylish essential for your everyday wardrobe….if wore correctly.

Style Tips ~ Do’s & Don’ts

  1. Make sure your leggings are opaque and made of a thick material.
  2. Pair with accessories to elevate your leggings outfit.
  3. Be sure to wear the right kind of underwear…no one wants panty lines.
  4. Contrast tight leggings with an oversized, loose-fitting top or cardigan to balance out the look.
  5. Make sure whatever you wear on top covers your rear end or is long enough.
  6. Remember, leggings are not pants and should not be worn to substitute pants.
  7. Play up layering when wearing leggings to add more dimension to your outfit, thus making it more interesting.

Outfit Ideas ~ Suggestions

Wear Leggings with a Plaid Tunic Button Up.  If it is long enough to cover your rear, I would agree that you are safe wearing your fave plaid shirt with leggings. If you are going for a super cozy, laid-back look for traveling or running errands around town throw on your favorite sneakers for a casual, cute look. But if you are looking to elevate the look, throw on accessories and riding boots to complete the look.

Wear Leggings with an Oversized Chambray Shirt.  If you have an oversized (tunic-length) chambray, you can put together a similar look. In this look below, you can see she threw on a neutral cardigan over a denim shirt and leggings, adding an additional layer to give the outfit more dimension and make it a bit more interesting.

Wear Leggings with Oversized Cardigans / Sweaters.  Similar to wearing leggings with an oversized plaid or chambray shirt, you can wear a longer cardigan or oversized sweater. Pairing an oversized knit with your leggings is a great opportunity to use juxtaposition to your advantage, contrasting the tightness of the leggings with a loose-fitting, oversized cardigan or cozy sweater.

Tips on Wearing a Cardigan

How to wear a cardigan…seems like a relatively simple question with an equally simple answer. However, when it comes to the humble cardigan you will be surprised as to the number of ways that it can be styled. Gone are the days of the dowdy twinset. These days the cardigan is a fashionable wardrobe staple. Below are just a few examples of how to wear a cardigan.

~ Belted ~
Cardigans can sometimes be shapeless, so change this by adding a belt. A belt cinched in at the waist is great for creating an hourglass silhouette. Choose a skinny belt and wear with a light to medium knit cardigan.

~ With a Scarf ~
A simple way to update your cardigan is to team it with a fashionable scarf. The right scarf can work wonders. Wear a chunky one for warmth, or add a silky scarf worn open and draped for something more chic.

~ Buttoned Up ~
A buttoned up cardigan is a great way to work a preppy look. This look works best on cardigans with higher, rounded necklines. A collar peeking out of the top would also make an on trend statement.

~ Tucked In ~
Tuck your cardigan into high waisted skirts or trousers for something a bit different. This is also a great way to show off a high-waisted silhouette. A tip for how to wear a cardigan this way would be to choose a cardigan that is fairly fitted.
